Thermal Performance Testing

Test planning, field measurement, calculations and performance interpretation.

Establish a useful performance baseline

Techsol supports performance testing for thermal generating units and selected plant systems. A test program is defined around the question to be answered, such as establishing a baseline, investigating a performance change or assessing an agreed guarantee requirement.

Define the test

  • Agree boundaries, operating conditions and the performance quantities to assess.
  • Review available measurements, instrument requirements and data quality.
  • Develop the procedure, calculations and acceptance basis for the assignment.

Measure and evaluate

  • Coordinate field data collection and test observations.
  • Review test validity and the treatment of applicable corrections.
  • Evaluate output, heat rate, auxiliary power or system performance as scoped.

Translate results into action

  • Explain the findings and the limitations of the available evidence.
  • Identify operating, maintenance or investigation priorities.
  • Provide the agreed test report and supporting calculations.

Scope and deliverables

The selected test code, correction method and uncertainty treatment are confirmed before execution. A performance test does not by itself establish the cause of every loss; additional investigation may be needed.
